About Dog Car Seats

Overview

Home Page : Overview
Dog car seats are more than just a fashion statement. They also keep your dog safe, secure and comfortable while traveling with you. They can make the trip a lot more fun for your dog since she'll be able to see out the window and keep an eye on what's going on around her.

Types

There are two main types of dog car seats. There are dog car seats that sit in a passenger seat and are secured with a seat belt. The other type sits on the console between the driver and passenger seat and is attached with straps that go around the console.

Function

Dog car seats elevate your dog so he can see out the window. This is useful if your dog suffers from motion sickness, and it makes the ride more enjoyable since he can see what's going on around him. Don't assume that your dog is safer simply because he is in a dog car seat. You will still need to use a safety harness to keep him secure in case you need to stop short or if you are in an accident.

Features

Dog car seats come with a strap to attach to a safety harness on your dog, making travel safer for both her and the other occupants in your car. They also have a soft inner lining to make it comfortable for your dog. Some dog car seats have an interior drawer or pocket to stow away dog toys or food, and attachments are available to make food and water accessible to your dog while you travel. The exterior of dog car seats come in a variety of colors and fabrics--you can even get a dog car seat in leather to match the interior of your car.

Size

Dog car seats are intended for dogs weighing between 4 and 25 pounds. Some are designed to hold two or more small dogs so they can travel together. Don't put your dog in a car seat that is too small for him or the straps that hold it in place may break free, causing injury to you or your dog. If your dog exceeds the weight limits of dog car seats, you can still keep him safe with a harness that attaches to a seat belt.

Where to Buy

Dog car seats can be hard to find, and stores that carry them often have a limited selection. Your best bet to find a dog car seat that is the right size for your dog and in a color you like is an online pet supply store. If you can't find a color you like, you can have a cover made to your exact specifications by an able seamstress. Remember: Safety first, fashion second!

Breed Specific Legislation posted at 5/13/2009
I’ve been noticing a lot of talk recently about breed specific legislation. Cities around the country are introducing new laws that put restrictions on, or even outlaw altogether, “aggressive” bully breeds, most notably pit bulls

So, while playing around with the idea of getting another dog, I decided that a Boston terrier would be the perfect fit for me, my husband and Freda. They are small, are moderately active and don't bark as much as other small dogs (My husband hates yappy ...
