We finally found a great dog to adopt! This weekend we brought home Desmond, a 10-month-old Corgi mix (they say Corgi/German Shepherd, but we think he's Corgi/Doberman.) We found him at the Town Lake Animal Shelter here in Austin. He's a sweet, fearless and very smart dog. He was also one of the local news Pet of the Week animals...that's right, he's a TV star.
Bringing him home, we were a little worried about the introduction to Freda. Things have gone pretty smoothly though. Freda mostly tries to ignore him, but he is smitten with her and rarely leaves her alone. He wants to play all the time, but poor Freda is just too old for that. We have discovered that Desi loves his toys though. A good game of tug-o-war or fetch will keep him occupied for long periods of time.
He's also a very smart dog. He already knows sit, down and stay, and he's working on come. He's house trained and has no problems sleeping through the night in his crate. Also, he never barks. He's in need of a few manners (he thinks your hand is a chew toy), but I'm sure he will pick them up in no time with a little dedicated training.
Oh, and the cutest thing he does is that sometimes when he has a toy in his mouth, he'll howl. It's hilarious.
On to the pictures!
