Overview

how dog scarf : Overview
One of the easiest and most enjoyable projects you can do for your dog is to make her a scarf. A cotton blend usually works best. Cotton blends won't shrink, they're easy to cut, and they don't wrinkle as easily. You can use pinking shears to create an instant costume or walking outfit for your pet. If you have time, hem the scarf so you can wash it without it fraying. These directions are for a scarf that will fit a medium-sized dog. You can adjust them accordingly if your dog is smaller or larger.

Step 1

Measure your dog to size her for a scarf. The ends of the long side should give you enough room to tie the scarf comfortably under her chin.

Step 2

Purchase 1 yard of fabric in your pattern choice. Common prints include assorted dog breeds, pawprints and dog bones.

Step 3

Cut your fabric in a triangle. Make one side 30 inches long and the other two sides each 16 inches long.

Step 4

Hem the edges by turning the fabric under a 1/4 to 1/2-inch.

Step 5

Tie the scarf on your dog to make sure it fits.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Your dog's scarf is more than an appealing accessory. You can use it to protect your long-eared dog from rain or snow by pulling it up over her forehead. If you use fabric you already have at home, iron out any wrinkles before you cut it. If you make an error while measuring, be creative by turning her scarf into a patchwork design and adding strips of fabric in a contrasting color to widen it to a length that will fit. For dogs who dislike wet weather, use a water-repellent fabric to protect them from the rain.
