Worms are nasty little creatures that pass among different animals and are contracted through various ways. They can cause anemia, dehydration and diarrhea. There are several that a pet can get, so check as to what worms your pet may have. Your dog can be treated at home, at least until the vet can see him.

Step 1

Use inexpensive dewormer such as horse and cattle dewormer. Only use the amount that it calls for per pound your pet weighs--for example, one milliliter for every five pounds. This kills the four main types of canine worms.

Step 2

Use another inexpensive dewormer called Ivomec. This is given to cattle and swine but is also safe for household pets. You can inject it or you can put a few drops in your pet's water about once a month. Use it according to the weight of your precious pet.

Step 3

Give the dog carrots which are a natural canine dewormer. It has distilled oils to aid in fighting off worms. It also provides nutrients that support the dog's immune system. In addition, carrot powder can make a dog's system build a resistance to infections. Just a little bit in each meal goes far.

Step 4

Check out natural herbs as well. These may cause the worms to be expelled from your dog. They also are a good way to prevent them. Quassia has an appetite stimulator as an added benefit. Peppermint and cinnamon both aid in digestion, which gets rid of the worms already there or prevents them.

Step 5

Try garlic juice, but only in small amounts. This is another way to prevent worms if given to your dog before he gets them. This will also gets rid of worms that are already there. This may be sprayed or mixed into your dog's food. He won't detect it. You can also add black walnut. In a liquid form, along with the garlic, it aids in prevention and gets rid of the worms.

Step 6

Give another natural herb called slippery eel. This herb provides a soothing relief to irritated bowels from having worms. This herb also causes infection and worms to pass on through the bowel.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Keep the water and kennel clean of canine fecal matter. This will cut down on the chances of your dog getting worms.
