how train dog use potty pads : Overview :
Puppies are adorable little bundles of energy that fill your heart with love, but they don't always "go potty" where you'd like. Save your floors, and your sanity, by training your puppy to use a training pad. The pads are disposable and will help your little furry bundle learn the proper place to go. This article will help you learn how to train your dog to use potty pads.

Step 1

Choose a location for your pad. The best choice is a place where there is no carpet. Place a layer of newspaper down that is larger than the puppy pad. Place the training pad in the middle of the newspaper. The extra newspaper will catch any misses to the target pad. Your puppy may go to the pad, but his rear end might not be completely on the pad.

Step 2

Get your puppy to the pad as soon as he wakes up from a nap or after eating or drinking. Puppies, because of their immature bodies, will frequently need to eliminate wastes after eating and sleeping.

Step 3

Praise your puppy when he uses the pad area. Remember that accidents do happen. Remind your puppy by saying "No" in a low soft vice. Place him on the pad. Do not yell at your puppy for accidents. Yelling at a puppy is not a good training technique. In fact, it may make housebreaking more difficult.

Step 4

After a few months of constant use, move the pad outside. Follow the same routine as you did inside to make sure he gets to the pad as soon as he wakes up and after eating or drinking. You will be able to, eventually, remove the pad and your puppy will go eliminate wastes outdoors.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Always keep the pad in the same place and change it when is soiled. Dogs rely heavily on their sense of smell and will go somewhere else if the pad is smelly. Patience is the key and remember that accidents will happen. It's a learning process
  • WARNING : Never punish your dog for an accident that you didn't see him have. Never hit your dog for having an accident. Do not rub his nose in his urine or feces, because rubbing his nose in it can make him very sick.
